Offensive Rebound %

The percentage of available offensive rebounds a player or team grabs — measuring how often they reclaim possession after their own missed shot.

Raw offensive rebound totals reward teams that miss more shots — more misses mean more opportunities. ORB% normalises for this by measuring share of available boards. It answers a cleaner question: when your team misses, how often do you get a second chance? Second-chance points are among the most efficient in basketball because they come from broken defensive sets, so ORB% has a direct line to offensive efficiency.

  • League average: ~22%
  • Good: above 23%
  • Elite: above 25%

In 2025–26, Paris Basketball led with 13.4 offensive rebounds per game, followed by Crvena Zvezda at 13.3 and Valencia Basket at 13.0. Hapoel Tel Aviv's league-low 8.9 offensive rebounds reflects a roster built for transition speed rather than glass work — a deliberate trade-off that still produced a 24–18 record.

Crvena Zvezda's 13.3 offensive rebounds per game in 2025–26 ranked second in the EuroLeague, trailing only Paris Basketball. Finishing 21–18, they weren't among the elite teams — but their ability to generate second chances gave them a consistent source of extra possessions. At the individual level, Nikola Milutinov of Olympiacos led all players with 3.1 offensive rebounds per game, anchoring the league's best team (29–12) with relentless work on the offensive glass.

Crashing the offensive glass costs you transition defense

Every player sent to the offensive boards is one fewer player getting back on defense. Teams with elite ORB% often allow more transition opportunities to opponents. The trade-off is real and tactical — some coaches deliberately choose not to crash the glass in order to prevent fast breaks.

ORB% depends heavily on who you're playing against

A team with poor defensive rebounding gives opponents more offensive rebound opportunities. A team that always faces elite defensive rebounders will have fewer chances regardless of how hard they crash. ORB% is a fair comparison tool over a full season, but in any individual game it can be heavily shaped by the opponent.

ORB% = Team Offensive Rebounds / (Team Offensive Rebounds + Opponent Defensive Rebounds) × 100
