Xavier Albert
Head coach · Valencia Basket · Spain · 39 years old
Promoted from within to run Valencia's high-speed system.
Xavi Albert is a product of the Valencia Basket system, from its youth and development teams, with a short earlier spell as senior head coach.
In 2026 Valencia promoted him to lead the first team, making him one of the least experienced head coaches in the EuroLeague.
Hard to judge through the same lens as an Obradovic or a Laso, because he has not spent decades in the spotlight. What his path suggests is a developmental, methodical coach, deeply tied to Valencia's culture.
His promotion is also a statement by the club: after a historic season, they chose continuity over a big outside name.
His edge is knowing the Valencia ecosystem inside out: ball movement, pace, spacing, aggressive team defense. He is likely to keep those principles rather than rebuild.
The real question is game management at this level, whether he can adjust in real time once opponents start targeting him.
