Aleksander Sekulic

Aleksander Sekulic came up through coaching, not a big playing career. He won titles in Slovenia and the Czech Republic, then led the Slovenian national team into the elite around Luka Doncic.

In 2026 he left Dubai to become Barcelona's first Slovenian head coach, signed through 2028.

Composed, intelligent, understated. National-team work taught him to build trust fast and manage a superstar without smothering the team around him.

Barcelona will ask for something different: a controlling, day-to-day presence over a long club season. That is the real test of the move.

With Slovenia he built everything around star creation, surrounded by spacing and smart secondary players. His job was to make Doncic's environment efficient rather than just hand him the ball.

Barcelona has no Doncic. The club rebuilt around youth, athleticism and defense. So expect a more balanced, physical, system-driven team than his national-team sides.
